'09 edition

Science+Fiction is back with the ’09 edition at the Cinecity Multiplex in Trieste, this year from November 22 to November 28.
Once again big authors and personalities in genre films will attend the venues to tell the audience about their career and present their movies: international actors, directors and producers The Jury will be not less prestigious, being headed by American writer Bruce Sterling, one of the cyberpunk gurus, author of fundamental works such as Schismatrix and editor of the popular short stories anthology Mirrorshades.
As usual, the Jury will give the Asteroid prize – this year made by young sculptor Marco Milcovich – to the best science fiction film in Neon – official selection, by chosing among titles from all over the world: Hungary, Canada, Russia, United Kingdom, Japan and many other countries. Another Jury, consisting of Enzo G. Castellari, Marcello Rossi and Andrea Magnani, will select the best short film and will give the Méliès d’Argent for the best European fantastic film.
Life achievement award Silver Urania - given annually to outstanding personalities of the fantastic and created in collaboration with the magazine Mondatori "Urania" - this year will be awarded to two film legends: Roger Corman - director and producer of extraordinary B movies and renowned for having launched names such as Jack Nicholson and Francis Ford Coppola – will receive the award at the beginning of the festival; charismatic Christopher Lee – recently back to great fame thanks to his roles as Count Dooku in Star Wars: Episode III and Saruman in The Lord Of The Rings trilogy – will be awarded at the end of the festival and will be closing the 2009 edition.
Finally, Science+Fiction new look is inspired by this year’s main topics: 2009 is the International Year of Astronomy and the main character is the Moon, fourty years after Armstrong moved his first step on the regolith covering the lunar surface. This combination of science and fiction is reflected in S+F.
